ODE Greentech Developed Heat Insulation Material Releasing Less Smoke in Fire

The smoke caused by the fire causes danger to life by covering the entire place only within minutes. Statistics reveal that 80 percent of fire deaths are caused by smoke. Greentech R&D, the innovation center of ODE Insulation, achieved a significant success and developed the R-Flex branded elastomeric rubber foam, classified in the "B-s1-d0" fire class, which provides less smoke during a fire. ODE Insulation Marketing Director Ozan Turan said that they will be the first company to produce elastomeric rubber foam of this class in Turkey and the second in the world.

Being one of the leading companies in the insulation sector in Turkey and in over 75 countries in the six continents it exports to, ODE Insulation has increased its investments in R&D and innovation, its most important power in its global journey, and initiated the innovation center called Greentech R&D this year. Continuing its activities in Eskişehir Technology Development Zone, Greentech has made significant achievement by developing R-Flex branded elastomeric rubber foam in "B-s1-d0" fire class, releasing less smoke emission during fire. 

Ozan Turan: “The new material we produce both ignites late and releases less smoke”

ODE Insulation Marketing Director Ozan Turan gave information about the new R-Flex product developed by Greentech R&D. Emphasizing that the smoke caused by the fire covers the entire interior within minutes and creates a life-threatening threat, Turan said: “Statistics shared by the National Fire Protection Association in America in the past years show that 80 percent of the deaths due to fire are caused by smoke poisoning. R-Flex branded elastomeric rubber foam, which is in the B-s1-d0 fire class that we developed at Greentech, provides very important advantages during fire. In fact, the best fire class that elastomeric rubber foam products can reach is B, and the best smoke class is S1 class. d0 indicates that the product will not spread by dripping during fire. Therefore, our new R-Flex product ignites later, slows down the progression of the flame when ignited, and allows minimum smoke emission.” 

“We aim to start production in the first quarter of 2022”

Explaining that the R&D studies of the product were completed successfully, Turan said the following about the production process: “We will be the first company in Turkey to produce this product and the second in the world. Our B-s1-d0 fire class products will have a wide range of uses, including ventilation, air conditioning, heating-cooling ducts and installation pipes, just like our other R-Flex branded elastomeric rubber foam products. It will contribute to minimizing carbon dioxide emissions and saving energy. It will also have anti-fungal, anti-mold and antimicrobial properties.”

“We will increase our effectiveness in the international arena with our R&D studies”

Explaining the works carried out at Greentech, Ozan Turan said: “In Greentech, we plan to develop innovative products that will appeal to different sectors as well as the insulation sector. For this, while developing products with existing raw materials, we will make projects to develop innovative products by using non-conventional raw materials. In this process, we will further increase our effectiveness in the international arena by working on TÜBİTAK and KOSGEB projects as well as European Union projects. In this context, we plan to allocate 3% of ODE's turnover to R&D and digitalization in the next three years, and to triple our R&D team.”
